Councillor McCann Meeting Report (August 11, 2015)
On Saturday, July 25, 2015, I had the honour of representing the Town of Parry Sound at the Belvedere Heights 50th Anniversary Party and Celebrations! The first resident moved into the home in December of 1965. The location for Belvedere was selected on the basis that our seniors would not be shut away from the community. Over the past 50 years residents and staff have come to develop friendships and memories. The celebrations included live entertainment, cake, a silent auction, an historical display and much more.
I had the honour of presenting a certificate on behalf of the Mayor, Council and Town of Parry Sound, along with a letter of congratulations from our Mayor, Jamie McGarvey to Belvedere Heights Chairman of the Board, John Cochran! This opportunity also gave me a chance to thank, on behalf of the Town, everyone connected with Belvedere Heights including management, staff, and the volunteers for all that they do and for making Belvedere such a wonderful part of our community.
On Thursday, August the 6th, 2015, along with Councillors Bornaman and Keith, I attended the monthly meeting of the Parry Sound Area Industrial Park Board. Among other business we discussed new highway signage to promote the Park and its tenants and we reviewed the Parry Sound Area Industrial Park Board Municipal Agreement in so far as considering a request for and agreeing to any changes put forth by any Municipal Partner. Two of the three Partners must be in agreement.
Finally, I want to take this opportunity to say how much I enjoyed my role as Acting Deputy Mayor from December 1st, 2014 and ending August 31, 2015. Each Councillor will take his or her turn as Acting Deputy Mayor until the next term of Council begins on December 1st, of 2018. Filling in for Mayor Jamie McGarvey when his schedule did not permit him to cover some events has been both an honour and a privilege not to mention a lot of fun!! I am grateful to Staff and Council for direction and guidance in carrying out these duties. I can only hope that I have this opportunity again in the future. Thank you to the people of Parry Sound as well for your support. I have had several opportunities to meet and introduce individuals and to have a chance to address gatherings on behalf of the Town and Council! Thank you for this honour and responsibility. Councillor Keith Saulnier assumes this role on September 1st, 2015.
