Councillor McCann Meeting Report (April 2, 2019)
Belvedere Heights Board of Management Monthly Meeting
On Wednesday, March 27th, I attended the Belvedere Heights Board of Management monthly meeting. On behalf of the Board, management and staff we welcome Kerry Moore who is joining Belvedere Heights. He will be working in a financial and human resources capacity. We are all very excited to have Kerry join us and look forward to working with him. We had a presentation from AdvantAge Ontario, of which Belvedere is a member. CEO Lisa Levin talked about how they advocate for homes, what they are able to do and their plans and goals for 2019. AdvantAge Ontario is a provincial organization which advocates for our industry and provides individual homes with valuable assistance in many ways. Also at the meeting we signed off on Service Accountability Agreements and on a Multi-Sector Service Accountability Agreement Compliance Declaration. KPMG is currently working on our audit Belvedere Heights and for Community Support Services.West Parry Sound District Museum Monthly Board Monthly Meeting
On Thursday evening, March 28th, I attended the West Parry Sound District Museum monthly board meeting. Financials were reviewed and accepted. The Museum was awarded a Trillium Capital Grant for the creation of two custom build display cases. The award will cover the construction, delivery and installation of these specialized units designed to enhance the display of artifacts at the museum. Work on the model train installation continues. Finally, funds are coming in from the various municipalities at a slower rate this year. In other years earlier receipt of funds has provided sufficient working capital for the early part of the year. However we are confident, and as such, can budget for operations for 2019.Travelogue Series at the Parry Sound Public Library
A reminder that this Thursday evening, April 4, 2019 at 6:30, Jim and Kim Marshal will be featuring another Travelogue. If you remember last year, they presented "Explorations of Africa". This presentation is titled, "Experience Egypt". Admission is free. Donations to the library are always appreciated.Congratulations to Bill Spinney On His Retirement
Congratulations to retiring General Manager of the Community Business and Development Centre (CBDC) in Parry Sound, Bill Spinney. After 30 years, in describing his time at the CBDC, Mr. Spinney was quoted, "It's been a great ride." Although his retirement was effective April 1st, he plans to stay around for a while to help the new General Manager, Gord Knowles, get comfortable and caught up to speed. Bill Spinney and his wife call Parry Sound their home since moving here in 1986 and they plan to remain in the area. Bill plans to continue to be active in the community in various capacities including many volunteer commitments.
