Councillor McCann Meeting Report (December 17, 2019)
Be a Santa to a Senior Program
This is the eighth year in which Community Support Services held the "Be a Santa to a Senior" program has been in place and again this year the people of the area have shown their overwhelming generosity through donations made to the program. Seniors adopted by the program may be in need and not likely have family to share the Christmas season. Volunteers deliver Christmas gift bags which are prepared for women, men and with consideration for those who may be diabetic. Items filling the bags include a lap blanket or comforter, socks, gloves, mitts, toques, napkins, tea, stationary, gift cards, shampoo, body lotions, toothpaste, toothbrushes, various soaps, razors, shaving cream, calendars, chocolates, cookies, snacks, puzzles, long reach grabbers, flashlights, batteries, diabetic treats, tissues and more. Thank you to the North Star for participating in this program, helping to promote and to serve as a drop-off location. Friday, December 13, 2019 I helped transport the items to the West Parry Sound Health Centre where we did the sorting and packing yesterday, December 16, 2019. Thank you to all who contributed with donations and with their time in sorting, packing and delivering. This year, 125 seniors will be receiving a gift bag!
Happy Ninetieth Birthday Celebrations on Behalf of Shirley Hanna
On Saturday, December 14, 2019, I had the honour of attending a ninetieth birthday celebration for Shirley Hanna of Parry Sound. Her husband Ray and daughters along with friends tried to keep it a secret but Shirley eventually suspected something was going on. Tomorrow, the 18th of December is her actual birth date. Family from near and far gathered at the Seguin Seniors Drop-In Centre for the afternoon. Shirley has invited everyone back for her 100th birthday party - and she means it!!
West Parry Sound Health Centre Christmas Dinner and Long Service Awards
On Saturday, December 14, 2019, my wife and I attended the West Parry Sound Health Centre Christmas Dinner and Long Service Awards. This year administration paid tribute to the EHR Team (Electronic Health Records) for their work on instituting the online records system. This involved a great deal of time, dedication and manpower. Congratulations to the team and the West Parry Sound Health Centre on this wonderful initiative.
The Knights of Columbus Annual Turkey Dinner
The Knights of Columbus Annual Turkey Dinner was held in St. Peter's Hall, Sunday afternoon, December 15, 2019. As always they served up a great traditional meal and Santa himself surprised the children with a visit and gifts for each. Thanks to the Knights for the great work they do for our community.
Parry Sound Public Library Board Meeting
This morning, December 17, 2019, along with Councillor Vanessa Backman, I attended the Parry Sound Public Library Board Monthly Meeting. We finalized and adopted our 2020 budget. The Treasurer's Report was received for November of 2019. We will be embarking on Pay Equity early in 2020. Inventory management was discussed and other housekeeping matters were dealt with. The library has been a very busy facility this year and we are looking forward to a prosperous and successful new year.
Merry Christmas & Season's Greetings!
On behalf of my wife Josey and myself, I would like to take this opportunity to wish our Mayor, fellow Councillors, Town Administration and Staff and the people of Parry Sound a very Merry Christmas. Have a safe and wonderful time. Best wishes for happiness and health in the New Year!
