Councillor McCann Meeting Report (February 5, 2019)

On Wednesday, January 23rd, it was a full day at Belvedere Heights. I attended a strategic planning meeting, and that was followed by a 2019 budget meeting and later in the afternoon, a meeting of the human resources committee. The Museum on Tower Hill
On Thursday evening, January 24th, I attended my first meeting of the West Parry Sound District Museum. Business at hand was the approval of the 2019 operational budget. In looking back at 2018 the Museum had processed 30 donation lots donated to the facility. These lots contained some 120 objects, 614 photographs and transparency slides and 110 archival documents. I'd like to specifically point out an initiative the Museum has undertaken. A working model of the Ottawa, Arnprior and Parry Sound railway is planned for installation. The model will bring Depot Harbour back to life and remembers the era of the lumber barrens who ruled the Parry Sound District. The funds raised from this campaign will be used to make the necessary upgrades the E Roy Smith Gallery to install the model.
A GoFundMe page has been set up with a goal of reaching $5,000 by February 28th! Go to https://www.gofundme.com/help-bring-a-train-to-tower-hill. Watch for the Museum on Facebook or go directly to http://www.museumontowerhill.com/. Charitable tax receipts are available upon request for donations over $25.Jackie Boggs Retires
Friday afternoon, February 1st, here in the Council Chambers I attended a gathering in celebration of Jackie Boggs’ Retirement. Her final day was January 31st after more than 10 years and 200 council meetings! I would like to wish Jackie all the best in the next chapter of her life and I want to thank her for all she has done for the Town, Staff and Council. The Flying Fathers Hockey Club Coming to Parry Sound
