Councillor McCann Meeting Report (December 6, 2022)
Parry Sound Santa Claus Parade
On Saturday afternoon, November 26, 2022 I had the pleasure of joining staff and volunteers of the West Parry Sound District Community Support Services as we participated in the Santa Claus Parade. I had the joy of driving our big red van decorated by staff and volunteers. It was so wonderful to be participating in a real parade once again after the pandemic. It was great to see so many people out and you could tell that everyone was all geared up and long overdue for such a seasonal event. Congratulations and thank you to all who participated in the parade and to those who organized the event!
Best Western Plus Grand Opening
On Monday evening, November 28, 2022 I attended the grand opening of the Best Western Plus on Pine Drive Parry Sound. What a beautiful, modern, bright establishment to add to anyone's point of destination visiting Parry Sound. We were welcomed and given a wonderful grand tour, everything from the boiler room to the top floor. The halls are bright, the rooms fully equipped and the bathrooms boast modern devices. Thank you to staff and management for a very welcoming and enjoyable tour.
Special Council Meeting for Training
On Tuesday evening, November 29, 2022, I attended a Special Town of Parry Sound Council Meeting that covered a review of municipal procedures, roles of Mayor, Council, Staff, Conflict of Interest, Open and Closed Meetings and so on. Even after 8 years I found it refreshing. Thank you to Town staff for organizing this special meeting benefiting incumbents and especially newcomers to Council.
Movies at the Stockey Centre
I would like to take this opportunity to remind the people of this area that although our local movie theatre, The Strand, has been closed temporarily due to change in ownership there is a place to go and enjoy movies on the large screen. The Charles W. Stockey Centre offers a movie night weekly. You can enjoy an evening out and catch a movie with popcorn and beverages. My wife and I have taken advantage of this. The last movie we caught was a film documentary on Leonard Cohen. Tickets are only $12 each. The films are shown Thursday evenings at 7:00. For upcoming films check out the Stockey Centre's website, https://stockeycentre.com.
