Councillor McCann Meeting Report (June 7, 2022)

Belvedere Heights Board of Management Monthly Meeting
On Wednesday morning, May 25, 2022, I attended the Belvedere Heights Board of Management Monthly Meeting via ZOOM.  Kami Johnson gave us a report on interaction and inclusion with our residents as part of the “Voice of the Resident”.  We discussed at length, media reporting on Long Term Care and specifically an article that appeared in the North Star online and in print May 4 and 12, 2022, respectfully.  We all spoke to and agreed to the importance of implementing an effective and strategic approach to ensuring that the public has the full details and understanding of where long-term care could be headed and a clear understanding of the proposed "Campus of Care" model on site at the West Parry Sound Health Centre.  A report on the activities of Community Support Services was received.  Financial reports and minutes from the Finance Committee Meeting held May 24, 2022 were also received.

West Parry Sound District Museum Monthly Board Meeting
On Thursday evening, May 26, 2022, I attended the West Parry Sound District Museum Monthly Board Meeting via ZOOM.  The Manager’s and Treasurer’s reports were received and the board reviewed its Collection Policy, "Our mission is to collect, preserve and share the history of the West Parry Sound District."  As such the Museum is "committed to responsible and ethical collections management practices, which meet all municipal, provincial and federal legislative requirements.  West Parry Sound District Museum is created to collect, conserve, research, house, exhibit, and interpret those objects that best serve to illustrate the history of the West Parry Sound District. Themes will relate to human history: settlement, industry, transportation and recreation; and natural history."  Attendance, gift shop sales, Facebook followers, Twitter and website hits are all on the increase as we come out of the pandemic.

Special Town of Parry Sound Council Meeting
On Tuesday evening, May 31, 2022, I attended a Special Council Meeting in which Council received training and insight into the logistics of municipal financial planning.  It was a very worthwhile event to help us understand the importance of careful spending, saving and planning for sustaining a healthy financial future for the Town of Parry Sound.

Welcome Fisher's Regalia to Parry Sound
Fisher's Regalia has opened a location on Queen Street in the old Georgian Rentals Building (3 Queen Street).  From their Facebook page we learn that the company was established in 1975 by the late Robert J. Fisher.  Fisher's Regalia provides custom fit dress uniforms and everything that goes with them for Canada's emergency services personnel.  See https://www.facebook.com/fishersregalia.  They tell me that "Parry Sound is lovely and couldn't be happier making the decision to move our business here."  They are holding an open house this Saturday, June 11, 2022, from 12:00 to 5:00.
