On Sunday afternoon, January 4, 2026, my wife and I attended the Mayor's New Year's Levee at Charles W. Stockey Centre. There was a great attendance. Guests enjoyed snacks and refreshments, shared company and conversation and were brought up to date on the major highlights and accomplishments of the previous year, 2025. It was also a time to look ahead at what to expect and what would be in the plans for the new year. Like every other year, the highlight of the event was the awarding of the "Order of Parry Sound". This year the honour went to Jim Ferris.
Condolences to Several Families on the Loss of Community Minded Individuals
We lost several pillars of our community since our last meeting and before Christmas. We were all shocked to learn of the passing of Richard Culverwell on December 29, 2025, Lawrence Larry Johnson on December 25th, 2025, Denis Leo Baskey on December 20th, 2025, Bucky Salt on December 19th, 2025 and Peter Scully on January 3, 2026. Condolences to the families of these fine individuals who have made a big impact in our community.
Parry Sound Public Library Board Meeting
On Wednesday morning, January 14, 2026, I attended the Parry Sound Public Library Board Meeting in person at the library. At the top of the meeting we re-elected Tom Lundy as Chair and Joe Ryman as Vice Chair. Treasurer's Reports were received for October and November of 2025. Our CEO reported on various programs and events held prior to Christmas. There are several programs coming up, something for everyone. As always, please check the library's website at https://www.parrysoundlibrary.com/ or drop in.

We were brought up to date on the 2026 Outdoor Rink at the Town Dock. We settled on the 2026 Waterfront Advisory Committee Meeting Schedule. West Parry Sound Community Support Services Bottles & Cans Fundraiser Update
West Parry Sound Community Support Services Bottles & Cans Fundraiser continues in 2026. As residents are learning, alcoholic containers are no longer being accepted into the regular recycling bins at the MacFarlane Transfer Station, which is shared by the residents of The Town of Parry Sound and the Township of The Archipelago, but you can, and we would encourage you to please drop them into the specially marked blue recycle bins on the lower level of the transfer station. This is an ongoing fundraiser for Community Support Services which handles transportation needs, meals on wheels, numerous outreach programs and much more. This fundraiser is a tremendous asset for the agency bringing in much needed funds and helping to cover many expenses once easily covered by provincial funding and grants. With the exception of the tiny liquor bottles you see at the LCBO checkout counter, everything and anything else that once contained alcohol is redeemable. Thank you so much in advance and please pass this along to family and friends!
Happy New Year!
Finally, on behalf of my wife we'd like to wish everyone a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year throughout 2026!
