Councillor McCann Meeting Report (November 17, 2015)

William Street Construction Public Viewing / Consultation
On Wednesday, November 4th, I dropped in at the Parry Sound Council Chambers for a Public Presentation and Consultation of the William Street renovation, upgrade plans.  The new design and infrastructure planned will certainly be an enhancement for residents and visitors obliging and complimenting the 8-80 Cities Initiative and the town’s Trail Master Plan.

Doug McCann - Parry Sound Town Councillor - Park-to-ParkPark-to-Park Board Meeting
On Thursday, November 5th, I attended the Park-to-Park Board Meeting in Rosseau.  There was discussion regarding the "Do It For Dads ATV Ride of Hope" partnering with Prostate Extreme Team.  The possibility of a second event with a new partner was discussed but nothing confirmed at this point.
For the April to October 2015 season, we had a total of 380 Volunteer hours, the Trail Ambassador program managed by 10 volunteers has proved to be successful.  The Park-to-Park board sends its thanks to the Town of Parry Sound for its on going support.  In fact Parry Sound is hosting the Annual General Meeting in January, on the 7th, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Hart Trophy Meeting Room, upstairs at the Bobby Orr Community Centre.  The public is welcome to attend.

Public Sector Accounting
On November 10th, I attended, along with Finance Director Trevor Pinn, a complimentary seminar on various topics that affect the municipal sector at the Barrie Country Club.  Topics included understanding the Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) financial statements criteria, including the responsibilities of the different parties involved in the process, Finance and Council. This seminar is ideally suited for Senior Management in Finance as well as Council members.  It was hosted by BDO.

Parry Sound Area Industrial Park
On November the 12th, I attended the Parry Sound Area Industrial Park Board meeting in McDougall, along with Councillors Borneman and Keith.
We discussed some necessary maintenance due to the November 6th severe storm hitting our area.  The waterplant roof was redone providing protection for the next 30 to 40 years.  The Lagoon revenue continues to be a healthy financial resource for the park.

Stockey Centre Concerts
Doug McCann - Parry Sound Town Councillor - Stockey CentreMy wife and I attended two concerts at the Stockey Centre last week, The Irish Rovers on Tuesday and Bruce Tourney - The Piano Man on Saturday.  Both great, entertaining shows.
