Councillor McCann Meeting Report (September 1, 2015)
Here's hoping that everyone has had a great and enjoyable summer. Whether you took the time to travel, stay home and enjoy the beaches, parks, backyard BBQ's and patios, I hope it has been an enjoyable and safe summer. For others it has been a time to entertain family and friends visiting this area from across the province, the states and other continents.
We always hate to see summer come to an end and even though Labour Day Weekend comes as late as it can possibly do so this year, we still have a great fall to look forward to. You may recall back in my CKLP Playland Broadcasting Days, we would run a fall promotion called “Summer in the Playland, Part 2" - just to set a positive mindset that snow shovels need not to be required just yet!!
Finally, a note to students heading back to school. I wish you a very successful year. Whether it's your first day in Junior Kindergarten, high school, college or university, best wishes for success, and remember to make each day count. On this note, I know many of our elementary students sadly said goodbye to their closing schools, William Beatty and Victory, but are looking forward to a brand new, modern building in which to learn.
Finally as we heard this evening in a deputation, the intersections in Parry Sound are proving to be more than risky for both driver and pedestrian. We have a number of citizens who require walkers and scooters and who can feel most vulnerable when crossing. As a motorist, please be careful and considerate when entering an intersection. Be mindful of pedestrians who may be navigating from one side to the other. On this day, September 1st, the Ontario Government has introduced tough new consequences for particular offensives including texting while driving, dooring cyclists, driving while impaired and for other offensives you may not even be aware of. Check out this June 3rd, 2015 article from the National Post for a detailed list of the new legislation in Ontario.
