Park to Park Trail Association Quarterly Board Meeting
On Thursday, November 15th, I attended the Park to Park Trail Association Quarterly Board Meeting, this time held in Orrville. The annual June ATV rally now has a formal committee orchestrating the event. The association is receiving a $1,000 donation from Prostate Extreme Team to assist with annual costs including hosting the annual Father's Day Weekend event in support of the Prostate Cancer Canada Network. We continue to benefit through our Trail Ambassador Program which involves 21 volunteers. There was more discussion on trail and bridge maintenance. Park to Park will be engaging in a thorough Trail Study examining the area at large for greater opportunities. There will be more on this in the coming year. Financial reports were also accepted. Finally, the association's Annual General Meeting (AGM) is set for January 10, 2019. The venue is to be announced.
Be a Santa to a Senior
The West Parry Sound Community Support Services in partnership with the Parry Sound North Star is conducting the Seventh Annual Be a Santa to a Senior Program. Canadore College, Parry Sound Campus and the Gardens of Parry Sound are also partnering in this great annual cause. This year, there are some 130 seniors throughout the area who are connected to the program. They may be in dire need and/or simply alone. Senior Safekeeping Lead Valerie Stanley reminds us that there are those who can just afford the essentials and so items such as toiletries become the extras that the program can provide. In addition many of the packages are personalized with the addition of something special that the senior recipient is known to love or appreciate. Ideal items to contribute to the program include socks for men and women, body lotion, nail clippers, tea, facial tissues, hairbrushes, hats and gloves. A financial donation is also very much appreciated as this allows the program staff to purchase other items known to be in need. These can include sheet and bedding and pyjamas. Although items donated must be new, gently used small appliances and assistive devices like canes and walkers are also very much appreciated. If you can help, please drop off items at the Parry Sound North Star by 4:00PM on Friday, December 7th.
Following is an extended list of items in need (56 males and 74 females):
Ensure or Boost, socks, shampoo, hand creams, manicure sets, hand towels, boxes of cookies, sugar free candies, cough drops, boxes of Kleenex or small pocket packages, small flashlights and batteries, magnifying glasses, non-slip slippers, long reach grabbers, calendars, large print word puzzle books, AA and/or AAA batteries, gift cards and financial donations (charitable receipts for amounts over $20)
Thank you in advance for your contributions!
Also, Saturday, December 1st, Belvedere Heights is holding a bazaar in the Fireside Lounge from 10:00AM until 2:00PM.
Note of Congratulations to Candidates and Outgoing Councillors
Finally, I would like to congratulate all those who ran for office in the October 2018 Municipal Election here in Parry Sound and in the surrounding municipalities, and a special note of congratulations to those who have been elected and re-elected. Best of luck to outgoing Councillors Jim Marshall and Keith Saulnier who both decided not to run in this election. Best wishes on all your future endeavours.
