Councillor McCann Meeting Report (July 7, 2026)

Waterfront Advisory Committee Meeting
On Monday afternoon, June 22, 2026, I attended a meeting of the Waterfront Advisory Committee here in Council Chambers.  We talked about the tribute to Bob and Drene Corrigan held Saturday morning, June 6, 2026 on the Town Dock.  Bob, as a member of the Committee, expressed great appreciate and gratitude on behalf of Drene and himself.  Bob Corrigan also presented some interesting facts and background on the luxury super yacht, the Satori, that recently visited Parry Sound.  The 207-foot vessel made a historic, week-long stop at the dock arriving June 21, 2026.  The massive size of this vessel would be one of the largest yachts to ever cruise the Great Lakes.  We were surprised to learn what it cost to fuel the craft from an empty tank.  It cost only a few thousand dollars over $200,000 to achieve full fuel capacity.  That capacity amounts to some 194,000 litres!  There was discussion on economic development and tourism strategy presented by Jeff Thom.

West Parry Sound District Museum Monthly Board Meeting and AGM
On Thursday evening, June 25, 2026 I attended the West Parry Sound District Museum Monthly Board Meeting and AGM.  The regular Board Meeting was straight forward as we accepted and approved the Memorandum of Understanding proposed by the Town of Parry Sound regarding the use of the museum's washrooms during open hours for visitors to Tower Hill and the Gardens.  The board purposed this for the duration of 2026, ending December 31st this year.  The board wishes to advise the Town that it would revisit a new agreement for next year in April 2027, when we will know what our staffing will look like.

Following the Board's regular meeting, it held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at 7:00 that evening.  The 2025 Annual report was presented, including financials and a summary of the Museum's activities over 2025.  There were over 7,000 people through the door generating admission revenue to the amount of $15,000.  The total gift shop revenue was $7,000.  Rental revenue came to $3,600.  Our social media footprint increased enjoying growth in popular platforms. Facebook saw an increase in followers to over 2,600, while Instagram followers amounted to 753.  Work on our YouTube channel is seeing an increase in visitors while we continue to grow and enhance our exposure on this platform.  We had two unique exhibitions and we rented "People of the Watershed" from the McMichael.  The Museum has gone through a strategic action plan.  The West Parry Sound District Museum thanks all those who visited and supported the Museum.  It is also very grateful for the continued monetary support from our municipal partners.  Keep in touch and up to date on the Museum's activities and exhibitions by logging on to its website, https://www.museumontowerhill.com/.

Town of Parry Sound Special Council Meeting
On Tuesday evening, June 30, 2026 I attended a special meeting of the Town of Parry Sound Council.  As reported in local media this week, the result of this special meeting was to hire Weeks Construction to complete the remaining work on Isabella and Wood Streets.  News reports quoted Parry Sound Public Works Director Mike Kearns who said the project is divided into three phases, each requiring work to complete.  This includes laying granular materials, installing concrete curbs and gutters, adding concrete sidewalks, hot-mix paving and restoring driveways and boulevards which were impacted by the project.
