Councillor McCann Meeting Report (July 21, 2026)
Summer In The Lakeland Playland
I have no meetings to report on since our last Regular Council Meeting on July 7, 2026. We do have our West Parry Sound District Museum Monthly Board Meeting coming up this Thursday, July 23, 2026. The Board and Staff are preparing for our Annual General Meeting (AGM) coming up in September. Watch for more details on that in the near future. I would like to congratulate all those connected to Art In The Park. This year's event marks the organization's 50th Anniversary. From its humble beginning to the success of what we've seen this year, Art In The Park has become a most welcome, significant and benefit to our area. It also continues to be an opportunity for local artists, artisans, bakeries, food and a variety of unique vendors to show of their goods and talents and have a platform on which to sell their arts, creations and crafts.
I'd like to talk about the importance of stopping to really appreciate this beautiful area in which we live. One reads several posts on Facebook responding to current and historic Parry Sound photographs, videos, news, stories and reminiscing. It's very heartwarming to read the favourable comments, thoughts and high regard communicated in these posts about our area. Former residents post their longing to be back here and have fond memories growing up. Still others, visitors, tourists, people who have visited in the past, all describe the beauty and scenery we are privileged to enjoy 365 days a year. I suppose for those of us living here, it's very easy to take it for granted. Summer is the best time to get out there and walk, drive, hike, bike, whatever gets you around and take in all Parry Sound has to offer. When my wife and I are out walking, we often comment on how fortunate we are to be here. We stand on Belvedere Hill and admire Georgian Bay. Let's remember to "stop and smell the roses", look after our land and never take for granted all we have. Have a happy and safe summer!
