Councillor McCann Meeting Report (May 5, 2026)
West Parry Sound District Museum Monthly Board Meeting
On Thursday evening, April 23, 2026 I attended the West Parry Sound District Museum Monthly Board Meeting via Zoom. Mainly housekeeping matters were dealt with. We received and approved financial reports for February and March, 2026. It was determined following a review of our Research Policy that no changes were required or recommended. There was brief discussion on the Museum’s lease with The Town of Parry Sound prior to handing the document back to Town officials for Mayor and Council approval. The issue of having the washrooms open and available to the tower hill visitors beyond the Museum's regular open hours is now a stand-alone matter to be further explored and discussed with The Town of Parry Sound. Our board also approved our Strategic Plan and finally agreed to honour a request for a letter of support from Liz McWalter for the preservation of the Jones Island Lighthouse. As the lighthouse is a historical site and given what our mission and mandate are, the Board was encouraged to agree in providing such support. The exhibit, "Built for the Bay: Scoots and Everyday Ingenuity" has been very well received and it will continue to be on display through to December of this year.
May is Museum Month in Ontario! May 18th is International Museum Day. In celebration the Museum is asking for the public's help by kindly making a donation of $25 or more to support our mission and operations. Keep an eye on our website at https://www.museumontowerhill.com/ every day from now until May 18th for a daily reason to support the West Parry Sound District Museum. Each day you can read a highlight of one of the standout projects and initiatives that have been made possible by your past financial support. It is hoped that this endeavour will continue to encourage and inspire you for continued support and/or new contributions. We thank you in advance!
