Councillor McCann Meeting Report (October 6, 2026)

Congratulations to Sully Burrows
Once again congratulations are in order for Parry Sound's Sully Burrows who won the Canadian Country Music Association's (CCMA) award for "Breakthrough Artist or Group of the Year".  The gala event was held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, in Saskatoon.  He has been described as a fast-rising breakout star in the Canadian country music scene.  He's been getting a lot of attention with rapid streaming growth, commercial radio success, touring and performing at significant festivals.  He's definitely rubbing shoulders with well know Canadian country artists.

Congratulations to Harvest Share on Their New Home
Congratulations to Harvest Share on their new location, 5 Queen Street, Parry Sound.  As their operation grows, more space for storage, administrative function and the increasing complexity of logistics in so far as total food collection and distribution, this location is affording the space necessary to do it all under one roof.

Waterfront Advisory Committee Meeting
On Monday afternoon, September 28, 2026 I attended the Waterfront Advisory Committee Meeting in person here in Council Chambers.  This was our last meeting as we come to the end of this council term. The main item on the agenda was discussion regarding Item 9.5.5 "Boat Launch; Resolution 2026 – 112" from the previous Town of Parry Sound Council Meeting.  We first heard two deputations from Parry Sound residents Joe Moloney and Glenn Wright. They talked about their negative experiences over parking and had some suggestions as to how the Town of Parry Sound might manage the dilemma.  Their comment was that the use of the boat launches and parking should be available to residents of Parry Sound only.  They also made suggestions on the various ways the Town could enforce and regulate this moving forward.  Glenn Wright discussed infrastructure upgrades and repairs needed as the changing water levels and the eroding of the ground where boat and trailer meet the water was causing damage to the trailers.  The Waterfront Advisory Committee agreed it would offer Town Staff the suggestion that public input could be collected regarding boat launch access while conducting research for the future staff report corresponding to Resolution 2026 – 112.In wrapping up, Clayton Harris thanked the members of the committee on behalf of the Town for their participation on the Waterfront Advisory Committee during this term of council.

Parry Sound Public Library Special Board Meeting
On Wednesday morning, September 30, 2026 I attended a special meeting of the Parry Sound Public Library Board in person.  This was a special closed meeting in which we met with a pay-equity consultant.  This meeting was very beneficial to the board as the library is committed to operating in full compliance in this area. It's imperative that employers keep up to date in this area.

Town of Parry Sound Election 2026 All Candidates Meeting
I, along with all my fellow incumbents attended the Town of Parry Sound 2026 Election All Candidates Meeting, Sunday evening, October 4, 2026 at the Bobby Orr Community Centre. It was an event that focused on several current and significant, not to mention, complex, issues.  Thank you to all citizens who attended.  It is hoped that this event shed some light on these election issues.  Thank you also goes out to the sponsors who worked hard to organize the event.  As you may know, the Parry Sound Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a different kind of evening this Thursday evening at the same time and venue.  This is a more casual event in which candidates from our town as well as neighbouring municipalities will have their own stations and welcome individual conversation, dialogue and questions.  That's from 7:00 to 9:00, Thursday evening, October 8, 2026, upstairs at the Bobby Orr Community Centre (BOCC),
