Honouring Long-Term Business Operations Downtown Parry Sound
Congratulations are in order for two very long term local businesses in the Parry Sound Downtown area.  Congratulations to Doris Muckingheim of The Wolf Den who has been the store's owner for the last 40 years, while the retail store itself has been around for 60 years.  Retail is a tough business, demanding long days and dedication.  Certainly Doris Muckingheim has been up for the task.  Her passion for the business will outlive the bricks and mortar as she will continue to provide goods for sale online via the store's website at https://wolfden.ca and don't be surprised if you spot her from time to time at select markets.  Well done Doris!

Mitch Sheridan of Mitch's Clothing, Footwear and More is another downtown Parry Sound veteran having operated his retail establishment for 53 years.  He and his daughters and staff continue to operate the store today at 44 Seguin Street.  I understand his daughters will be taking over the store to continue the long tradition of carrying and selling fine clothing.

Thank you to both establishments for their countless contributions making downtown Parry Sound alive and vibrant.  Your legacies are an important part of our community’s story.


Beware of Scams On Line, Telephone and At Your Door
While this next item is not really directly related to Council business, I would like to take this opportunity to remind the public at large to continually be on guard when it comes to scammers who may be targeting you.  From time to time and it seems more frequently these days, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have been publishing warnings about any number of active scams making the rounds.  Whether on the phone, e-mail and even in person, people pretending to be police officers, representatives of the Canadian Revenue Service, banking and credit institutions, Windows (inferring Microsoft), cell phone upgrades, romance schemes, phony sales gimmicks relating to household renovation, driveway sealing and landscaping, fake charitable organizations, fire departments and on and on, these fraudsters can be very creative, sound convincing, even aggressive.  They will create a sense of great urgency, demanding immediate action on your part.

Legitimate institutions, banking, government, Microsoft, Google, major corporations DO NOT CALL asking you for any credentials, personal information, bank account numbers, credit card numbers, passwords, etc.  Protect yourself.  It's easy.  Just say no, close the door, hang up the phone, delete suspicious e-mails and text, block suspicious callers and e-mail addresses.  Do not click on unknown and unsolicited links and downloads.  Such e-mails may appear to becoming from someone you know, but that's not always the case.  Verify people attempting to contact you.  Do so independently by looking up official phone numbers for local police, fire departments, or businesses rather than using numbers provided by these would-be fraudsters.
