Site Excavation Begins on the West Parry Sound Recreation and Cultural Centre Grounds
On Thursday afternoon, it was exciting to see that excavation work had begun on the grounds of the future site of the West Parry Sound Recreation and Cultural Centre. It may appear to be a humbling start with equipment on site, but the real beginning, the real vision, goes back many years.  Countless people committed to having a pool one day, worked together, raised funds and sought support from the public and various levels of government. The dream and vision date back to 2006.  There various locations considered, site plans and funding formulas examined.  It's obvious the determination was there.  Just a year ago, the centre’s first official fundraising event took in $37,200 with a leading $25,000 donation from the Rotary Club of Parry Sound.  While there is so much yet to be done, excavation equipment on a selected site is a welcome thing the project just seems that much more real.

Celebration of Lives Well Lived
People will recall the news of the passing of Wayne Cormier on November 14, 2023 in Cheticamp, Nova Scotia.  Wayne and his wife Antje relocated there in 2019.  They had lived some 50 years here in Parry Sound.  Antje who had been suffering from declining health lived only 81 days on this planet without Wayne when she passed away herself.  With the couple's unending love, support and contributions to the West Parry Sound Area, they left an indelible mark on these parts.  It's been written and said that most anyone involved or benefiting from the likes of growth and development including commercial and industrial, skills training, fund raising, community support systems and such should know that either Wayne or Antje had something to do with it.  To honour and remember Wayne and Antje a Celebration of their Lives Well Lived will take place on Sunday afternoon, April 28, 2024, from 2:00 to 5:00 at the Mike Konoval Community Hub in the Carling Township Community Centre, 2 West Carling Bay Road, Carling.  Everyone is invited.  There will be more information coming shortly.
