Councillor McCann Meeting Report (July 2, 2024)
West Parry Sound District Museum Annual General Meeting
On Thursday evening, June 20, 2024 I attended the West Parry Sound District Museum Annual General Meeting. The year 2023 proved to be a much better year than the previous, of course coming out of COVID. Attendance at the door, admission revenue, gift shop sales and rental income were all up significantly. For example total admission revenue increased by nearly 72%! Social media saw an increase in followers. We have created a YouTube channel with plenty of interesting content. Several exhibits were featured in the last year. We have a digital strategic plan for internal use on how we are digitizing our collection. Even maintenance was a focus. Thanks to an Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant, the Museum’s back deck was refurbished and now once again open to the public. The fiscal year end financial statements ending December 31, 2023 were reviewed and accepted. The board elected to remain with Gingrich Harris Copeland Chartered Professional Accountants as our 2024 auditor. Peter Daleman was appointed to the board. Marianne Bourgeois and Gerald Porter were reelected. Following the Annual General Meeting, the official opening of the exhibit, "Tracing the Legacy: The Waubuno" was held.
West Parry Sound District Museum Regular Monthly Board Meeting
The next Thursday, June 27, 2024, the Board held its regular monthly meeting. While I was not in attendance at this meeting I can report that it was a fairly straight forward meeting to handle a number of housekeeping matters. The Museum has a new, temporary website in place while a more complex and interactive site is being developed. Go to https://www.museumontowerhill.com.
West Parry Sound Community Support Services
West Parry Sound Community Support Services is grateful to the Town of Parry Sound for its latest addition to its fleet of vehicles. There is a brand new multi-passenger, accessible vehicle replacing what we referred to as “Big Blue”. This new one is white with plenty of the latest technology in accessible transportation.
Canada Day Celebrations
On Monday, July 1, 2024, my wife and I attended the Town Dock and Stockey Centre observing some of the celebrations. The Birds of Prey was a most interesting presentation. The fireworks seem to get better every year. This year’s show was spectacular! Thank you to staff, volunteers and all involved in this year's celebrations!
