Councillor McCann Meeting Report (May 21, 2024)
Parry Sound Public Library Board Meeting
On Wednesday morning, May 8, 2024, I attended the Parry Sound Public Library Board Meeting in person at the library. We received financial reports for March, 2024. A Multi-Year Accessibility Plan for 2024 to 2028 has been developed and is available upon request. Our first quarter year statistics were reviewed and the library is getting busier. In the first three months it had 5,382 visitors, up 7% from the first quarter in 2023. Computer use was on the increase by 10%. The use of mute boxes was up by 5% and the circulation of physical items grew by 31%. Check the Library’s website at any time for information on upcoming library programs and events. Waterfront Advisory Committee Meeting
On Monday afternoon of May 13, 2024, I attended a meeting of the Waterfront Advisory Committee. We received an update and information from Kathy Suggitt of MHBC Planning, Urban Design & Landscape Architecture of Barrie, working with the Town of Parry Sound on our Official Plan. There was continued discussion on our ideas and vision expressed through our internal committee member survey. Moving forward the Committee wants to conduct a summer survey to gather feedback on the community's vision for the future of our waterfront. There is a resolution on this initiative before Council later during this meeting. Committee members are planning to attend community events throughout the summer to survey residents and visitors. Our findings will be compiled in September. Our overall goal is that our findings will help us identify and bring forth suggestions and perhaps actionary items to Council afterwards. There was also discussion about organizing a fall community engagement as a follow-up to the summer survey. This is intended to raise awareness about the kickoff of the Waterfront Master Plan and encourage residents to become involved.
Birthday Greetings to Bob Corrigan
At this time on behalf of the Waterfront Advisory Committee, I would like to congratulate Bob Corrigan who celebrated his 80th birthday earlier this month, on May 9th. Bob reports that he is now "18 with 62 years of experience" and adds that he plans on being around for a while! Bob is a member of the Waterfront Advisory Committee and is also a very important figure with the Parry Sound Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary. You can often find Bob on his boat, the "Cambrian" at the Parry Sound Town Dock. Happy Birthday Bob!!
