Councillor McCann Meeting Report (August 13, 2024)
West Parry Sound District Museum Monthly Board Meeting
On Thursday evening, July 25, 2024, I attended the West Parry sound District Museum Monthly Board Meeting in person. Attendance and social media numbers have increased over last year. Financial Reports were received and accepted. Work is getting underway for exhibitions next year. They will include “People of the Watershed: Photographs by John Macfie”, a Scoot Exhibit, a Fire Fighting Exhibit and Escape Room. Regarding the Scoot and Fire Fighting exhibitions, Nadine Hammond, Museum Manager has started on oral history interviews with people connected to this subject matter. The Museum is also working on a Request For Proposals (RFP) to manage a re-branding project. Our goals include confirming the name of the Museum (West Parry Sound District Museum & The Museum on Tower Hill). It’s time to decide what moniker on which to settle and go forward. There will also be the creation of a new logo, a new brand look and a new website.
Special Town of Parry Sound Council Meeting
On Tuesday, August 6, 2024 I attended a special closed Council Meeting.
Farewell to the Bob & Marilyn Douglas
I would take this opportunity to bid a fond farewell to a couple who have resided in Parry Sound for over 45 years and have just relocated to Kelowna, British Columbia. Robert (Bob) and Marilyn Douglas have pulled up stakes to be closer to family. Bob was the sole owner of Doane Hall Pharmacy in the Parry Sound Mall after buying out the other two partners in 1983. You may recall it took on the Guardian brand for some time. He sold to Gordon Lane twenty years later, in 2003, but continued to serve as a pharmacist. I can tell you that more than one person received instruction from Bob on how to tie a windsor knot!! Marilyn a registered nurse was connected to Medical Associates for many years. They were also very good personal friends of my wife and I. They served their customers, patients, friends and community very well and we will miss them. They chose Kelowna to be closer to their son John and his family. They have a daughter working in Hawaii. We wish them all the best!
