Councillor McCann Meeting Report (July 16, 2024)

Pillar Repair on Belvedere Avenue
I would like to take this opportunity to express special thanks to John Vanderhorst, Environmental Services Manager, at Belvedere Heights for taking the initiative and lead on repairing one of the brick pillars which stand at the entrance of the path and stairs that lead down to the Fitness Trail, off Belvedere Avenue.  At the time it was uncertain who was responsible for upkeep, maintenance and repair.  The damage was brought to our attention by an individual who noticed the top portion of the pillar had been shoved, possibly as a result of a hit by an automobile or by an act of vandalism.  Aside from being an eyesore, there was concern that any further damage or vandalism might render a hazardous condition in that a broken piece could fall and cause injury to people making use of the path entrance.  Mr. Vanderhorst and a few members of his staff did the repair.  Mr. Vanderhorst then did some digging into archived files it was determined that while Belvedere Heights constructed the pillars and gave an easement to the town, the Town of Parry Sound would be responsible for maintenance.

Have a Safe and Enjoyable Summer
Summer is now in full swing and it's obvious that the town is "hopping"!  There is a great deal of traffic on our town roads and on Highway 400/69.  The sidewalks are busy and it's so wonderful to witness such action, especially after what we experienced over the pandemic.  Please keep safety a priority whether you are driving, walking, swimming, hiking and so on.  Enjoy all that our area, the "Lakeland Playland" has to offer!
