Councillor McCann Meeting Report (February 6, 2024)
West Parry Sound District Museum Monthly Board Meeting
On Thursday evening, January 24, 2024, I attended the West Parry Sound District Museum Monthly Board Meeting via ZOOM. Financial reports were reviewed and received for November and December of 2023. We delved into another Policy Review, this month it was our Personnel Policy with some minor deletions in areas not applicable to our current model. We created and accepted a new Board Member Application Form for members of the public who would like to be a part of the Museum Board in the future. December and most of January were dedicated to the coming Curling Exhibition at the Museum. An exhibition is so much more than putting up a few placards and pictures. There is much research done, interviewing of community members, reading and planning. Nadine Hammond has now completed six of seven annual deputations to the area municipalities in seeking funding for the Museum.
Waterfront Advisory Committee Meeting
On Monday afternoon, January 29, 2024, I attended the Waterfront Advisory Committee Meeting held in Council Chambers. Following the resignation of Dan Glenney, our Chair, Alana Torresan was elected our new Chair, and Anne Bossart, our Vice Chair. There was a review of the Committee's Purpose, Mandate & Responsibilities, an update on the Waterfront Plan, the Town Dock Gazebo maintenance update and a lengthy conversation on whether our committee should or could meet on a monthly basis. Pending further investigation, there is no decision yet.
Parry Sound Public Planning Meeting
On Tuesday afternoon, January 30, 2024, I attended and participated in a Parry Sound Public Planning Meeting. It was very well attended. Divided into groups, there were discussions and input relating to what was felt was most important to Parry Sound in the years to follow. The exercise was very fruitful and an integral step in the process.
