Councillor McCann Meeting Report (December 18, 2018)

Thank You For Your Support
Again I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who voted for me.  I am honoured and humbled to have the privilege of serving as your voice on Council for the next four years.  I continue with great passion here at the table and I look forward to what I believe will be good things for Parry Sound.

Belvedere Heights Board of Management Monthly Meeting
With Councillor Borneman I attended the Belvedere Heights Board of Management Monthly Meeting on Wednesday, November 21st.  We received notice from the Northeast LHIN that funding for a new van was approved for use by Community Support Services.  In fact the van arrived about two weeks ago.  It is a properly equipped, wheelchair accessible 2018 Caravan.  It is a replacement for an older Caravan still on the road for the time being.  There is an ongoing shortage of Personal Support Workers (PSW's) and management has been devising new staffing plans to make the most of the training and skills our employees have and when and where are needed at the most crucial times.  We said goodbye to the Board's Chair Debbie Zulak and Seguin Councillor Mario Buszynski.  They will be both missed very much and we wish them all the best in their future endeavours.

Be a Santa to a Senior
A big thank you goes out to all who supported the "Be a Santa to a Senior" program.  I am told the response has been extraordinary and overwhelming.  Thank you again to those who gave and to Val Stanley, staff and volunteers from Community Support Services and sponsors of the program for making this all happen.

Optimist Club and Town of Parry Sound Santa Claus Parade
On Saturday, November 24th, with Councillor Bonnie Keith and Community Recreation Programs Coordinator, Brad Weiler I was once again excited to participate riding along on the Town of Parry Sound float as part of the Optimist Club and Town of Parry Sound Santa Claus Parade!   Thank you to Brad and staff for decorating the float, and thank you and congratulations to everyone participating in this annual event.  Finally thank you to the people of Parry Sound and Area for coming out to enjoy the parade.

Town of Parry Sound Coat of Arms Creation Ad-Hoc Committee Meeting
On Tuesday evening, December 4, 2018 I attended a meeting of the Ad-Hoc Committee established to select a Coat of Arms for the Town of Parry Sound.  Also in attendance was Mayor Jamie McGarvey, Jim Marshall, Ann Hurdman, Administrative Assistant and Anita Chechock, representing Wasauksing First Nation.  We are finalizing the components of the Coat of Arms.  We also would like to the connection and relationship between Wasauksing First Nation and the Town of Parry Sound.  A delegation from this committee attended a Band Council Meeting on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 for the purpose of presenting plans of the Coat of Arms.  We will be working with Wasauksing to establish the ideal component representative of the Anishinabek people.

Merry Christmas And Happy New Year
At this time I would like to extend sincere wishes to one and all for a very Merry Christmas and for a Happy, Health and Prosperous New Year in 2019!  Please play it safe in your travels and have a wonderful Christmas Holiday.
