Condolences to the Family of John A. Macfie
I would like to extend condolences to the family of John Macfie on his passing, Friday, October 26th at the age of 93.  He truly did lead an extraordinary life.  Over these past days, actually nearly two weeks, we have all had a chance to hear and read about his many accomplishments and the numerous accolades and notability.  He had a knack for story telling, writing and photography capturing and immortalizing our region's history for many generations and years to follow.  He wrote a total of 13 books, more than 1,000 newspaper and magazine pieces.  He also contributed approximately 1,400 photographs to the Archives of Ontario.

Early this year John Macfie was awarded a Certificate of Membership, making him a 2018 Honorary Member of the Forest History Society of Ontario.  This was in recognition of his contributions to forest and logging history through various media including newspaper articles, books, photographs, paintings, artifacts and recordings.  John was unable to be in attendance to receive this award in person, but he had a place picked out for display when he received the framed certificate at his home.

In Appreciation for Your Support
I want to congratulate all those who have been elected to serve the Town of Parry Sound in the next municipal term, 2018 to 2022.  Thank you to all those who voted and supported me in my bid to earn the opportunity to serve for a second term!  Congratulations to everyone who ran in this election!  A special note of thanks and appreciation goes out to Councillor Jim Marshall and Councillor Keith Saulnier who are stepping down.  Thank you for your service and dedication.  Good luck to each of you in your future endeavours!
