Councillor McCann Meeting Report (August 8, 2023)

West Parry Sound District Museum Monthly Board Meeting
On Thursday evening, July 20, 2023, I attended the West Parry Sound District Museum Monthly Board Meeting via ZOOM.  We continue to ensure that our own Governance Policy is in order and in compliance with our corporation's by-laws.  The Financial Report and Manager's report were received.  There was discussion regarding some ideas about conservation care for the grader, one of the outside artifacts.  It is in need of a major face lift as it sits on Tower Hill as a reminder of very early-day industrial ingenuity.  Attendance, annual pass holder sales, gift shop sales and a significant following on social media are all on the increase.  The Indigenous Ingenuity exhibition arrived on July 5th by the end of the day on July 6th the exhibition was installed and ready for visitors.  Science North held a grand opening on July 14th.

On Friday, July 21, at 1:00, I attended the ribbon cutting ceremony as the Museum re-opened the outdoor deck following significant renovations.  As you know the deck has been a popular spot for many celebrations, meetings and occasions and we are pleased that it is once again open to the public.  On hand was our MPP, Graydon Smith.  Bert Liverance gifted a framed print of one of his paintings to be Mr. Smith.

Festival of the Sound Concludes 40th Anniversary Season
Congratulations to the Festival of the Sound on its completion of another very successful season, and this was not just any season, but the Festival's 40th Anniversary Season! As the organization's website reads, the Festival is, "A music lover’s music festival."  This years' theme was, "This Is Our Sound", running from July 19the to August 5th. The Festival's inaugural season took place in the summer of 1979 and for forty years has brought the world’s great musicians to Parry Sound.  Thank you and congratulations to all those involved and connected with the Festival.
