Councillor McCann Meeting Report (February 7, 2023)

West Parry Sound District Museum Monthly Board Meeting
On Thursday evening, January 26, 2023, I attended the West Parry Sound District Museum Monthly Board Meeting via ZOOM.  The Board has regretfully accepted the resignation of Jo Bossart.  Jo was extremely valuable to the Museum, particularly with his knowledge and expertise in Finance.  His work on the Board has made a most beneficial and productive impact for the Museum in so far as establishing a very professional finance and budget platform and in helping to build the Museum’s Mission.  We extend a heartfelt thank you to Jo for his service. His assistance will have a far reaching positive impact in the Museum’s future.  The Museum will be involved with a February partnership with Harvest Share – accepting food/monetary donations for Harvest Share instead of admission sales.  The Museum has good reason to expect fibre optic service to the building in the sometime near future thanks to the Township of The Archipelago and Vianet.  We received a financial report and the manager's report.  This month we reviewed our Facility Rental Policy.  At this time the Museum is undertaking its own study and examination of its IT services including hardware, software, networking, and website.  Once a plan or report has been authored we are hoping our next step will be to issue Requests for Proposals.  More on this in the months to follow.  We welcomed a new Board member, Jennifer Woods of Parry Sound.

Parry Sound Public Library New Mute Box Unveiling
On Friday morning, January 27, 2023, 11:00, I attended the Parry Sound Public Library New Mute Box Unveiling.  Thanks to the Resilient Communities Fund: Ontario Trillium Foundation from which a grant was received, the library was able to purchase and install two mute boxes.  In addition to the attendance of MPP Graydon Smith, who cut the ribbon, local dignitaries and public joined the library staff and board to celebration these wonderful additions to our library.  Refreshments and snacks were served.  Mute boxes provide a safe, transparent, private station in which someone can study or conduct a meeting with one or two other people.

Special Town of Parry Sound Council Meeting
On Tuesday evening, January 31, 2023 I attended a special Town of Parry Sound Council Meeting in which we received training and updates on property taxation and development.

Congratulations to Rotarian Linda West
Congratulations to Parry Sound’s Linda West, Rotary Club President, who was picked by the Rotary International Board of Directors to receive the 2022-23 "Service Above Self" Award.  This is a most prestigious Rotary honour, and considered the highest recognition a Rotarian can achieve.  It is only awarded to a maximum of 150 of the 1.2 million Rotarians per year.  Congratulations Linda.  You will recall Linda received the Order of Parry Sound just over two years ago.
