Councillor McCann Meeting Report (December 19, 2023)
West Parry Sound District Museum
On Thursday evening, December 7, 2023, I attended the West Parry Sound District Museum Board Meeting via ZOOM. The Manager's Report was received, as well as The Financial Reports. Other business included discussion on establishing a procedure for appointment of Directors, snow plowing tender, HVAC maintenance contract, and the 2024 Museum Board of Director Meetings Schedule. We continue to see growth in the sale of Annual Pass Holders, Monthly Attendance figures and Gift Shop sales. Our CEO is coordinating with Georgian Bay Software and Rick Lund regarding an online scrapbook honouring Parry Sound area veterans. Another policy was reviewed and our manager continues to research and coordinate the Curling Exhibition set to open on January 20, 2024 and open for the entire year.
The West Parry Sound Recreation and Cultural Centre Information Session
On Tuesday evening, December 12, 2023, I attended The West Parry Sound Recreation and Cultural Centre (WSPRCC) information session held at the Stockey Centre. It was wonderful to observe the great turnout and interest in this project. Updated renderings were displayed by CS&P Architects for the benefit of the public and it was an opportunity for people to comment and ask questions from everything to design and funding. Also on hand were representatives from Ball Construction, Gordon + Gordon Group, the YMCA, the WPSRCC Board, Steering Committee, and Fundraising Team.
Parry Sound Public Library Receives NOHFC Grant
On Tuesday afternoon, December 19, 2023, I attended a special event at the Parry Sound Public Library. The gathering was in recognition and appreciation for a grant from the Northern Ontario Heritage Funds Corporation (NOHFC) and The Town of Parry Sound covering the cost of three new rooftop HVAC units. NOHFC contributed 75% of the cost, and the Town of Parry Sound contributed $7,702 towards the remaining cost in this year’s capital budget. On hand were several speakers including our MPP, Graydon Smith, Mayor Jamie McGarvey, library CEO, Selena Martens, and library board Chair, Tom Lundy. Several area elected officials were also on hand along with members of the library board of management. Gratitude and appreciation were expressed for the funds needed to replace the old HVAC units which were well past their time and service.
