Councillor McCann Meeting Report (July 4, 2023)
West Parry Sound District Museum Monthly Board Meeting
On Thursday evening, June 22, 2023, I attended the West Parry Sound District Museum Monthly Board Meeting at the Museum. The Ontario Not-for-Profit Corporations Act requires that Museums need to be in compliance by October of 2024, following changes to the Act and so this requires a review and some amendments to our by-laws. This will be underway and will need to be approved by the general membership. This can be done at the September Annual General Meeting (AGM). The Community Museum Operating Grant (CMOG) is provided pursuant to specific documentation confirming that funded museums meet Canadian Museum Standards. This year it is the Accessibility Plan under the microscope. A Museum's Accessibility Plan outlines how the organization will make the facility and the programs accessible to visitors, volunteers and staff. A motion to approve the Accessibility Plan was deferred to the next meeting. Staff have revisited the artifacts from the barn that were stored within the storage unit. Most, if not all, artifacts are now within the building. There is a great deal of work involved in sorting through these, some in great condition, others not so good, and others irrelevant to the Museum’s mandate.
