Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree Town of Parry Sound Santa Claus Parade
On Saturday afternoon, November 2023 my wife and I enjoyed the Town of Parry Sound Santa Claus Parade featuring this year's theme, "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree". Congratulations to staff and volunteers on another great parade which was very well attended, and a shout-out to all the participants in the parade who showed off their imagination, creativity and more importantly the spirit of Christmas.



Hospice West Parry Sound Soup for the Soul
Following the parade, we attended the Hospice West Parry Sound Soup for the Soul at the Bobby Orr Community Centre, from 4:30 to 7:30. The fund raiser which included a bake sale was very well attended. The success of this event was due to the countless volunteers and also to the generous sponsors, and of course to all those who came in to warm up after the parade!  We later learned that my favourite soup of the evening was the winner.  It was the tasty Creamy Chicken Gnocchi and the folks behind this recipe deserve a big note of congratulations, the Community Living Parry Sound - Community Kitchen. They took home the Taster's Choice Award at this annual event.


The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train in Parry Sound
On Wednesday late afternoon, November 29, 2023, we attended the Festival of the Sound Station Gallery on Avenue Road to great The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train.  Once again, a huge turnout for this annual event that has been running since 1999.  Again this year, Harvest Share was on hand to collect contributions for its Food Bank.  Live entertainment was provided by Anyway Gang.  Once again the people of our area proved what big hearts they have with donations to the Food Bank. Thanks to all who attended!


West Parry Sound Community Support Services Bottles & Cans Collection
With the Christmas season upon us the West Parry Sound Community Support Services relies on the generosity of the people of the area to help the organization meet its needs in so far as providing outreach to our senior population.  West Parry Sound Community Support Services provides Meals on Wheels, Transportation, Friendly Visiting, plays Santa to seniors in need throughout the West District, provisions for the safety of our seniors, especially for those who are alone and so much more.  There are also special get-togethers, exercise and other programs provided.  Services are rendered through the efforts and generosity of numerous volunteers.  I would take this opportunity to remind you that we are still collecting refundable, alcoholic containers including cans, bottles, wine skins, plastic and glass liquor bottles, liqueur and champagne bottles, and alcoholic tetra containers.  You can drop them off in the specially marked blue bins at the rear of Sobeys on Pine Drive, and also at MacFarlane Transfer Station.  We thank you in advance.  For more information on Community Support Services, log on to their website at https://www.parrysoundsupportservices.ca/.
