Councillor McCann Meeting Report (February 4, 2025)
West Parry Sound District Museum Board Meeting
On Thursday evening, January 23, 2025, I attended the West Parry Sound District Museum Board Meeting via Zoom. We welcomed a new board member with the appointment of Roxanne Walker. A variety of items originally stored in the barn, now demolished, are being assessed for their value to the Museum. So, there has been a deaccessioning of objects. The majority of these items do not meet our collection mandate and a large number are in extremely poor condition. This will free up some much needed space and storage. Financial notes and reports were received for December of 2024. There was a review of our exhibition policy anda setting of meeting dates for 2025. Attendance is on the rise. The year 2024 had a total of 6,120 visitors. This is over the 2023 total which was 5,608, which is a 9.3% increase!
Condolences to the Beggs Family
I would take this opportunity to extend sincere sympathies to the family of Paul Beggs who passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025. Paul, very popularly known as Paul the Breadman was 72 years. Condolences are offered to his wife Diane of 39 years and their children. For years Paul was a fixture in and around the grocery and corner stores delivering bread for resale. He was friendly and kind. He was a gentle giant and will be missed deeply.
Tribute to an Unsung Photographer Hero
As you know there has been a tremendous amount of development in Parry Sound and we've had the pleasure of being kept up to date through a bird's eye view thanks to local photographer, retired principal, Thom Morrissey. His drone photography has enabled us to witness the construction and progress of such sites as the new pool, the new high school and others. Thom also gives us a day and night bird's eye view of the entire area, all four seasons. Through his photography we can proudly show off our beautiful town thanks to his Facebook postings! Thank you Thom!!
