Councillor McCann Meeting Report (July 15, 2025)

William Street Park Official Reopening
On Friday morning, July 4, 2025, along other Councillors, Town Staff, Installers and two excited little girls, I attended the Official Reopening of William Street Park. Like the Waubuno Beach Park Playground, this installation is new and modern and developed to encourage physical exercise and imagination, and of course fun!  Another shout-out to April McNamara, Manager of Parks and Recreation, her staff and the installers.

Pump Station 2 Groundbreaking Event
On Tuesday morning, July 8, 2025, I attended the Official Groundbreaking Ceremony, launching the construction of the new Pump Station 2, near the Champagne Street boat launch.  This event marks and subsequent construction will pave the way for more housing, protecting Georgian Bay and building a more resilient Parry Sound.  The investment of over twenty and one-half million dollars will support more than 2,400 new residential units.  In attendance were the Town of Parry Sound Mayor Jamie McGarvey, Township of the Archipelago Reeve Bert Liverance and MPP for Parry Sound-Muskoka Graydon Smith. Several Councillors in addition to senior leadership personnel from both municipalities were in attendance.  This project was made possible by a $13.1 million investment from the Government of Ontario, a $360,000 contribution from the Township of the Archipelago and $7.1 million from the Town of Parry Sound.

Parry Sound Poutine Feast 2025
On Sunday afternoon, July 13, 2025, my wife and I checked out the Parry Sound Poutine Feast 2025 at Market Square Park.  Canada's Touring Poutine Festival made a four-day stop in Parry Sound.  This was the Featival's one of 22 stops in towns and cities in Ontario.  People enjoyed various poutine flavours and availed themselves to a number of vendors from which to choose.  This year's turnout is testament to the growing popularity of this traditional summer event.
